Hoch Conservatory, Patron
20 May, 1896
Today is a sad day indeed. Once a long-time faculty member of the esteemed Hoch Conservatory, Clara Schumann passed today. She was the first piano teacher hired by Dr. Hoch, after turning down offers to teach in Stuttgart, Hannover, and Berlin. Though she taught only a handful of lessons a day, her fame and talent brought the best students from around the world. In particular it was the female students who thrived under Professor Schumann’s tutelage and I know they grief today as well. Hoch Conservatory has established itself as a leading institution of music education, and Clara Schumann helped to solidify that position.
